Fourth Annual Car City - September 29-30, 2017
Central Georgia Technical College 6 PM to 7 AM
We were so pleased with the turnout for the Fourth Annual CAR CITY hosted by our in-kind sponsor, Central Georgia Technical College, …our largest gathering to date. We began with the National Anthem by Jadis Marcum. The evening under the stars included a soup/bread line by Troup 566 and a great assortment of desserts provided by the Girl Scouts, entertainment by a wide array of vocal and instrumental groups, a flashlight scavenger hunt, a bouncy house and an outdoor movie accompanied by smores provided by KAZ sorority. Be sure and check out the video clips of all the performers. FPHope.org.
This year we were blessed by a great line-up of HOMETOWN HEADLINERS to include returning super star Jared Leland (actor on the Walking Dead). Amanda Milner (2006 Miss Georgia and 2015 Georgia Teacher of the Year) once again helped us MC the event. Grace Thomas, former Miss WR Outstanding Teen, current Miss Southeast GA Outstanding Teen shared her talents for the third year. We welcomed newcomers, Lexi Henry and Charles Richardson, to our stage to host as well. Lexi is the 2016 Ms. US National Forestry Queen, current Ms. Georgia South and Mrs. GA Petite. Charles Richardson is an editor with the Macon Telegraph. In addition, Lindsey Richardson, 2017 Miss Warner Robins and current Miss Columbus sang. As a special treat, the beautiful Nova Kopp, 2015 Mrs. Georgia and the 2017 Ms. International, shared the stage as she lent her support to the cause of homeless children and their families.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of a donated vehicle to one of our Family Promise guests and his daughter. Totally amazed and thankful, he now has the resource to maintain his employment and move quickly into his own home. Participating in the presentation of the vehicle keys by the Schoonover family were Charles Richardson, Lexi Henry, Mayor Randy Toms, FPGHC President Dave Razo, and Director, Nichole Rosser. Several individuals spent the night sleeping in cars to “experience homelessness”, and the brave overnighters then enjoyed breakfast together.
We definitely want to THANK our sponsors, donors and volunteers. On behalf of the 100 children who, after coming through the Family Promise program in Houston County, are now residing in their own homes with their families……..Thank You All for making this possible!!
